Edino Krieger (BR) – Mondschein Chaconne

Edino Krieger über sein piano piece „Mondschein Chaconne“

„This small piece, written in February this year, is constructed on the first phrase of Beethoven’s Moonlight Sonata, taken as a single melodic line, without the arpeggios of the right hand.

This phrase is used in variations either on the first dotted motif or in the subsequent melodic line.  The harmonic language is of a more contemporary style, in which the harmony is conceived as a superposition of intervals, rather than for its tonal function. A strong dramatic contents is part of the contemporary approach to the original poetic idea. A middle section Piu mosso cantábile utilizes the dotted motif as a ground rhythmic figure, a slow marching song typical of Brazilian Carnival.“
