Andreas Wagner (DE) – lose Blätter

Andreas Wagner about his piano piece “lose Blätter”:

“The idea for the piano piece “lose Blätter” (loose Leafs) came to me in a second-hand bookshop where I discovered an old, yellowed copy of Beethoven’s piano sonatas. This music book had evidently had a stormy past: whole pages were missing, only the parts of some pages were missing, only the parts of some pages were still there. Reading the remaining fragments resulted in a new, randomized combination of Beethoven’s piano music. Another component of this piece was added when, while at work on sketching this piece created by aesthetic decay, my neighbour, Mr. Cerny, was heard practising the Pathétique again and again with great fervour. Thus extreme contrasts resulting from seemingly painful dissonances, pauses lingering on the last reverberations and sign of disintegration. On the musical directions is therefore: play x-times, always more softly and disappear into nothingness!”

“lose Blätter” – in concert:

14. January 2018 – world premiere – Klavierhaus Klavins, Bonn – Susanne Kessel, piano
